The 2023 Patrick Vega Memorial Swim-a-thon
In 2023, the Patrick Vega Swim Scholarship came together once again to raise money to continue providing scholarship to our community. Together with the help of the OHS swim teams, water aerobics and helpful friends and family, we were able to reach our donation goal! Together, those that participated swam 26x100s in honor of Patrick. We would like to thank everyone that came out and participated and we look forward to seeing again next year.
Our 2023 Scholarship Recipients
These are our 2023 Patrick Vega Swim Scholarship recipients. We are grateful for each one of our recipients and their dedication to our aquatics programs. Unfortunately, Oxnard has not had swim lessons since the pandemic, so for the time being we will be donating to pre-existing organizations.
SNAP with Stepping Stones is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization. Our mission is to provide socialization, wellness, and water safety through aquatic programs for children with special needs. SNAP with Stepping Stones offers year round recreational swimming lessons in group and private settings, adapted to meet the needs of each child. We additionally provide medical-based aquatic physical, occupational and speech therapy services.
We are so excited to partner with SNAP with Stepping Stones. For this year, we will be providing them with a scholarship for a new adaptive swim instructor and for at least two swim lesson scholarships. It is important that everyone receives swim lessons that are specific and adaptive to their needs.
SURVIVAL SWIM WITH KIM INFANT AQUATICS
After loosing her daughter, Kiri, to drowning, Kim O’Brien has dedicated her life to saving young children from drowning. Kim specializes in Infant Aquatic Survival lessons for children ages six months and up.
Since partnering with Kim, we have gifted four infant scholarships. We love helping Kim and gifting infants with such as needed survival skill.
OHS AQUATICS
Both OHS girls and boys swim teams received a donation from the 2022 Patrick Vega Swim-A-Thon. OHS is Patrick and Kate’s alma mater and we love supporting their aquatics programs! They will be an annual recipient.
In the past the swim team has used the donation for swim equipment for their swimmers, and the water polo teams have used the money to enter in tournaments. We love supporting these teams, and seeing the growth of our community.
For many, this is the first real experience of swimming and competing competitively. It is a joy to see them excel by the end of the season!
