About Us

Welcome to the Patrick Vega Swim Scholarship

After the death of their son and brother, Patrick, the Vega family created the Patrick Vega Swim Scholarship to honor his memory. The family received many donations during their first few months after his death and in return saved those donations, so that they could give back to their community.

Both Patrick and Kate were lifelong swimmers and began competing at the age of 5. They often looked to the water for comfort and peace of mind. However, for many in Oxnard the water is not a safe place. Here at the Patrick Vega Swim Scholarship, we support organizations that teach and maintain the life long skills that come with interacting with the water, whether that be through infant survival skills, swim lessons, high school aquatics, or lifeguard training. We aim to break the stigma surrounding our beautiful resource.

Why?

To provide aquatic opportunities to a community in need of support. Oxnard is a beautiful city, near an ocean, but the majority of our community does not know how to swim. That needs to change!

How?

Through your donations and constant support. We value each and every one of our supporters. The more you give and donate, the more opportunities become available.

When?

Our biggest event, the Patrick Vega Memorial Swim-A-Thon, occurs once a year around the death anniversary of Patrick. Here we collaborate with local organizations to create a welcoming space for all to swim.
